VOICES RAISING VOICES

NATALIA / FALL 2020

Voices Raising Voices is an initiative to highlight the work of musicians who are people of color, women, and/or LGBTQIA+ presented by The Christman Opera Company. This virtual series will showcase the works of contemporary composers and up-and-coming artists. Kimberly will perform two duets with soprano Vanessa Naghidi from Greg Bartholomew's new opera Razumov. The chamber opera is based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad and takes place in St. Petersburg in 1900 under the Czarist regime. Kimberly will perform the role of Natalia, the sister of an executed revolutionary. The performances will be released online in Fall 2020.

Dr. Rappaccini isolates his daughter Beatriz in an exotic garden overflowing with remarkable, but deadly, flowers. After glimpsing her beauty from his apartment window, a young medical student falls in love – but a dark secret threatens their romance. Rappaccini has been testing his toxic botanicals on Beatriz, and she has become poisonous to the touch. Virtual Presentation in collaboration with Valhalla Media, filmed at The Field Museum in Chicago.
